10 January 2008 - New Hampshire loser: Ron Paul

On a day when Republican isolationist Ron Paul went down to yet another crushing electoral defeat in New Hampshire, Jamie Kirchik at The New Republic unveiled an investigative piece about the history of bigotry in Paul’s conservative newsletter. Paul’s support comes from the radical left and right; I’ve seen some of his propaganda on campus. He’s done now, though, thanks to Kirchik—and the voters.

McCain and Clinton were the comeback kids. Clinton pulled off a particularly incredible upset victory, given that she looked like a sure loser when the polls opened. In my short political career, I’ve learned a valuable saying: the only poll that counts is the one in the ballot box. There’s still a long way to go in this campaign, and no one will ever take the numbers for granted again.
